MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s International Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi main a federal authorities delegation has flown to Ankara for Turkey-brokered talks with Ethiopia over a controversial sea entry deal that Addis Ababa signed with the break-away area of Somaliland in January.
It comes months after the Somali authorities introduced that there could be no room for mediation with Addis Ababa until it retracted its memorandum of understanding with Somaliland.
The shift in stance comes days after Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud mentioned that his authorities welcomes Ethiopia to achieve entry to the Somali shoreline, triggering public anger and social media backlash.
It’s not but clear if Ethiopia has to this point agreed to stroll again its take care of Somaliland which triggered considerations raised by the US that it might play into the arms of Al-Shabaab, serving as a recruitment driver for the Somali militant group which rose to distinguished following the Ethiopian invasion of Somalia in 2006.
