The Common Secretariat of the Group of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has adopted with concern and indignation the repeated statements made by Argentine President Javier Milei, on numerous events, of statements offensive to Islam, Muslims and the traditional Islamic civilization, utilizing hostile phrases by “Islamic terrorism” and “Islamic fanaticism” and linking terrorism to Islam. The OIC Common Secretariat strongly condemns such statements by a Head of State with which the OIC Member States have conventional relations of friendship and cooperation and customary financial pursuits, that are incompatible with the mutual respect of relations between the Argentine folks and the Muslim peoples, and opposite to the respect anticipated of heads of state and officers for religions and peoples’ beliefs, stresses its principled place rejecting terrorism in all its varieties and manifestations and categorically rejecting linking terrorism with Islam. Or by any faith.
On this context, the OIC Common Secretariat renews its name to deal with all manifestations of hatred, intolerance, adverse stereotyping and defamation of religions, to advertise dialogue amongst religions, civilizations and cultures and to implement the related resolutions of the Common Meeting and the United Nations Human Rights Council on “Defamation of Religions”, particularly the Common Meeting decision of 15 March 2022 declaring 15 March because the Worldwide Day for Combating Islamophobia.
