Hargeisa (PP Information Desk) — The President of Somaliland’s administration, Muse Bihi Abdi, yesterday claimed that the aim of signing a maritime Memorandum of Understanding with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, in January was “to safe diplomatic recognition for Somaliland.”
Whereas on the election path in Hargeisa, Bihi gave a speech portraying the unlawful maritime MoU as one among his administration’s achievements. He misquoted Abiy Ahmed and misinterpreted the Ethiopian Prime Minister’s remarks about in search of entry to the ocean. “As you recognize, this week Abiy Ahmed stated that even when he doesn’t signal the maritime Memorandum of Understanding with Somaliland, future Ethiopian generations will,” Bihi stated.
Abiy claimed that Ethiopians of the current era owe it to future generations to safe entry to the ocean. In response to this provocative assertion, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia said that Ethiopia ought to lose the privilege of internet hosting the African Union headquarters because of violations by Ethiopia in opposition to the territorial integrity of a member state. “Somalia has shaped a defence pact with Egypt and Turkey to comprise the expansionist regime of Ethiopia. The [British] colonial administration allowed Ethiopia to annex Somali territories, but Ethiopia now seeks to annex territory belonging to [an independent] Somalia,” President Mohamud stated earlier this week in a speech to the bicameral legislature in Mogadishu.
