The previous, manned by UPDF, was handed over to the SSF by ATMIS Sector One Commander, Brig. Gen. Peter Omola, whereas the latter was handed over to the Jubaland Safety Pressure by KDF Gherille FOB Commander, Maj. Shitanda Terence Soita.
This brings the overall variety of FOBs handed over to SSF to 6, whereas the Marka Ayub facility was closed. ATMIS is anticipated to withdraw 2000 troops by the top of June in keeping with UN Safety Council resolutions 2628 and 2670.
ATMIS is withdrawing 2,000 troops by the top of June 2023 in compliance with UN Safety Council Resolutions 2628(22) and 2670(22) which require ATMIS to step by step switch safety duties to the Somali safety forces.
The AU mission’s Performing Pressure Commander, Maj. Gen. Marius Ngendabanka emphasised that the drawdown of 2000 ATMIS troopers won’t influence on safety for key authorities installations and main inhabitants centres if the SSF takes over.
