MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Puntland opposition on Tuesday rejected a brand new election timetable issued by the electoral fee of the northeastern Somali federal member state.
On Monday, regional electoral fee mentioned the presidential vote can be held on February 25, 2024, extending the time period of the area’s incumbent president by one month.
In a press release, opposition leaders described the transfer as an “infinite time period extension” for Puntland president Saeed Abdullahi Deni.
It comes weeks after the opposition threatened to oust Deni if he continued to insist on holding a one-man one-vote election, citing quite a few challenges, together with time and monetary constraints.
