MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has reportedly refused to situation a diplomatic passport to his predecessor, Mohamed Hussein Roble, for his deliberate journey to South Africa, a number of media shops on Wednesday.

The choice has sparked controversy, as diplomatic passports are usually granted to each present and former Somali officers.

Roble, who served as prime minister from 2020 to 2022, performed a pivotal function in organizing elections throughout his tenure, working tirelessly to make sure a peaceable transition of energy. His efforts had been broadly seen as instrumental within the election of the present president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who was then the opposition chief.

The motive behind Barre’s refusal stays unclear, as there was no public indication of prior disputes between the 2 leaders.

The transfer has drawn criticism from distinguished figures, together with Fahad Yasin, the previous head of Somalia’s Nationwide Intelligence and Safety Company (NISA). Yasin described the choice as inappropriate, stating that whereas loyalty to the president is commendable, it shouldn’t lengthen to disrespecting a former chief who peacefully handed over energy.

Roble, who holds Swedish citizenship, is now anticipated to proceed along with his delayed journey to South Africa utilizing his Swedish passport. He had obtained an official invitation from the Somali diaspora neighborhood in South Africa.

The incident has raised questions concerning the remedy of former officers in Somalia and the broader implications for political decorum and respect throughout the nation’s management.

No official assertion has been launched by the Prime Minister’s workplace relating to the matter, leaving the general public and political analysts to take a position on the underlying causes for the choice.
