MOSCOW, Russia – The governments of Russia and Somalia have agreed to settle the African nation’s debt to Moscow.
The doc dated December 10 was posted on the net portal of regulatory acts. In accordance with the textual content of the settlement, the quantity with curiosity accrued below long-term loans prolonged earlier than October 1, 1984 by the Soviet authorities to Somalia is written off.
The schedule to the settlement signifies that the whole debt quantity was $48.1 mln.
“A hundred percent of the acknowledged quantity is consolidated in accordance with this settlement,” the doc reads. “The federal government of the Federal Republic of Somalia is launched from paying the complete consolidated quantity,” the settlement stipulates.
The doc is a follow-up to the Russian-Somalian settlement dated July 26, 2023 that set forth the debt reimbursement schedule. With Somalia now exempt from paying again Soviet-era loans, the schedule has been adjusted, and the remaining debt might be absolutely settled by April 2028.
