MOGADISHU, Somalia – In a major transfer to curb illicit arms commerce and improve nationwide safety, Somalia has imposed a complete ban on the commerce, smuggling, and different transactions associated to weapons and ammunition inside the nation by non-state actors.
The choice was made on Thursday following a unprecedented assembly of the Nationwide Safety Council, chaired by President Hassan Sheikh which addressed the current seizure of illicit weapons by armed militias in Abudwak city underneath Galmudug state this week.
The Nationwide Safety Council issued a number of directives to strengthen oversight and accountability in weapons and ammunition administration. The prime minister, navy chiefs, intelligence, and police attended the convention.
