MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Somalia’s authorities has requested the United Nations to finish its political mission in Somalia often known as (UNSOM) by the top of October 2024 as Mogadishu seeks elevated worldwide help forward of ATMIS exit.
Somali authorities say the choice was reached after “consideration of our strategic priorities”, including that “Somali Authorities will now not request mandate renewal of decision 2705(2023).”
In a letter addressed to the UN Safety Council, Somali Overseas Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi mentioned: “We consider that it’s now acceptable to transition to the following section of our partnership. We’re assured that the achievements and classes realized in the course of the mission’s presence will proceed to information our efforts in the direction of sustaining peace and prosperity.”
