The Chairperson of the African Union Fee, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, is following with deep concern the escalating tensions between native communities within the contested areas of northern Ethiopia, together with Raya Alamata, Zata and Ofla.
The Chairperson calls on each side to urgently halt hostilities and make sure the security of civilians to finish the renewed displacement of the native inhabitants. He appeals for the respect and full implementation of the Settlement for Lasting Peace By way of a Everlasting Cessation of Hostilities (COHA), signed between the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Tigray Individuals’s Liberation Entrance (TPLF) on 2 November 2022, in Pretoria, South Africa.
Moreover, the Chairperson requires the graduation of the political dialogue, which is probably the most viable means to reply to the problems of contested areas, as stipulated within the COHA.
The Chairperson reiterates the continued dedication of the African Union to accompany the Authorities and other people of Ethiopia and calls on the related Division of the Fee to undertake all applicable measure on this regard.
