MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Authorities of the breakaway area of Somaliland on Tuesday reported one other close to miss between Ethiopian Airways and Emirates Airways flights over Somalia’s airspace amid escalating tensions between Hargeisa and Mogadishu.
“On the evening of Sunday, March 24, 2024, at roughly 12:43 East Africa Time, a harrowing incident unfolded within the skies over the East Africa as Emirates Airways flight UAE722 and Ethiopian Airways flight ETH690, each flying at an altitude of 37,00 toes, narrowly escaped a possible collision. This alarming near-miss incident occurred on account of conflicting directions issued by Mogadishu Management, directing each plane to converge on the similar time and line,” Somaliland authorities mentioned in a press release.
“Due to the short considering and decisive actions of Somaliland Air Site visitors Controllers, in collaboration with the pilot of Ethiopian Airways, disaster was averted because the ETH690 swiftly ascended to 39,000 toes, mere moments earlier than catastrophe might have struck.”
